Honolulu, Hawaii #063

Is the capital of Oahu, Hawaii...

Oahu is a U.S. island in the Central Pacific, part of the Hawaiian island chain and home to the state capital, Honolulu. Highlights of the city include historic Chinatown and the Punchbowl, a crater-turned-cemetery. Waikiki is an iconic beach, dining and nightlife area. West of Honolulu is Pearl Harbor, site of the WWII's 1941 bombing attack and home to the USS Arizona Memorial.

Upon our arrival at the Honolulu airport, we enjoyed a special greeting for us with a beautiful flower lei and we then transferred to the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort for the next four nights before our wonderful cruise.

Honolulu, is on the island of Oahu’s south shore, the capital of Hawaii and the gateway to the U.S. island chain.  We visited the Waikiki neighborhood with it's center for dining, nightlife and shopping, famed for its iconic crescent beach backed by palms and high-rise hotels.

We enjoyed the beautiful views of majestic Diamond Head and the ocean looming in the distance.

Later in the week when we returned from our cruise,  we took in the sites relating to the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor include the USS Arizona Memorial.  What an exciting and educational tour - to top off our great trip to Hawaii!

Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa - our wonderful hotel!

A great place to stay with this 4-star resort being just a 4-minute walk from Waikiki Beach with beautiful sun sets and a great place for people watching, 7 minutes by foot to the Honolulu Zoo, close to the Waikiki Aquarium and Royal Hawaiian Center.

Enjoying a huge buffet breakfast available daily from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM, we were able to appreciate the food and recreational amenities, which included 2 outdoor swimming pools and a 24-hour fitness center.

We also took advantage of the additional features at this resort including complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services, and gift shops/newsstands.  We relaxed at the full-service spa, where we enjoyed massages, body treatments, and facials.

A great way to start our wonderful tour!  Lots of photos of the hotel, Waikiki Beach and a tan body you don't want to miss on our 30-minute download!

Aloha Stadium Swap Meet...

The state's biggest open-air flea market with 400-plus stands!

On our first tour, we enjoyed the fabulous flea market to buy our first souvenirs, walk for a few hours after our long trip sitting on the plane!

Open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet is bargain central for inexpensive souvenirs and Hawaiian shirts. We enjoyed the fresh coconuts to keep us hydrated while we shopped.

The products at the market included jewelry, fresh produce, clothes, purses, candy, prepared foods, shoes, and just about any Hawaiian souvenir you might want. We arrived by bus.

Booths are lined on both sides with corridor in middle. It was very warm and lots of shopping. A fun experience and we were all tired after all the walking around for several hours.

With the great affordable prices, we stacked up on lots of souvenirs for ourselves and family gifts!

Amazing variety and good deals!

This is an awesome market to find just about anything you could want/need. From fresh pineapple to souvenirs, it's all here.

Hundreds of vendors and friendly faces everywhere. Everything is a good price but vendors would sometimes negotiate prices.  We watched them create items while we walked around.  Lots of pictures and videos of all these wonderful sites - on our 30-minute download...

Here's a few pictures - a little bit of everything going on!

Aloha Stadium...

In addition, hosts a multitude of events attracting visitors from around the State including soccer matches, concerts, car shows, fairs and the ever popular Aloha Stadium Swap Meet & Marketplace that we all enjoyed on our first day out.

O‘ahu Island in the Pacific Oceans...

The Gathering Place...

Known as “The Gathering Place,” Oahu is home to the largest population of people as well as the best nightlife in Hawaii.

The Honolulu craft beer and food scene here was dynamic and its always changing. For a taste of the local culture, check out the neighborhoods of Kakaako, Kaimuki, Kapahulu and Chinatown.

Waikiki and Ala Moana Center are world-class shopping destinations, while boutiques in beach towns like Kailua captivate with their own charms.

The surfing mecca of the world is Oahu’s North Shore, and surfers flock there every winter to witness the best the world has to offer.

The Veranda...

Hotel and Resort that our Tour Director got Married...

Amenities-packed oceanfront retreat offering luxury rooms & suites, dining & dolphin encounters.  They had live dolphins swimming arounds and ladies working with them.

Afternoon Tea time at no better place in Hawaii.  Sit in the cool shade and watch the dolphins and people in the pool.  The 3 tiers of delight is heavenly and matches well with the delicious tea.

We enjoyed this property located in the Kahala Hotel just past Diamond Head.

There was so much to take in - all the beauty of the flowers along the walls, the ladies in the water with the dolphins and the cascade of waterfalls in the distance and it's a popular place for weddings!  Lots and lots of pictures!

Hanauma Bay...

Hawaii Kai neighborhood...

Hanauma is a marine embayment formed within a tuff ring and located along the southeast coast of the Island of Oʻahu in the Hawaii Kai neighborhood of East Honolulu, in the Hawaiian Islands.

Hanauma is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Island.  Hanauma Bay is a protected waterway and is relatively calm outside the reef line. Regardless of your ability, Hanauma Bay will deliver.

Everywhere you travel you can find the popular chickens.  The beautiful turtle painted on the water tower...

Stopped at the Halona Blowhole Lookout...

Most spectacular overlooks...

From this lookout, we could see ocean water shoot 30 feet into the air from a lava tube.  It was a nice coastal lookout area, but nonetheless a great stop for the coastal view and access to a small cove beach.

The Halona Blowhole Lookout is one of the most spectacular overlooks on the East Coast and Halona Cove can easily be seen from this site, as well as a large portion of the East Coast Cliffs.  Very beautiful!!!

Took videos and lots of pictures!  Here's some below...

The Byodo-In Temple...

Buddhist temple...

We visited the Byodo-In Temple which is a non-denominational Buddhist temple located on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was dedicated in August 1968 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.

The Byodo-In Temple is a replica of a 950-year-old Buddhist place of worship in Uji, Kyoto, Japan.

Tours are offered of this iconic temple with a scenic pond & garden, plus a building with artifacts.

My sister and I were feeding the fish and birds - it was so much fun - the birds would almost land on your hand to get a treat!

Valley of the Temples Memorial Park is a memorial park located on the windward side of the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu at the foot of the Koʻolau mountains, near the town of Kāneʻohe.

Thousands of Buddhist, Shinto, Protestant and Catholic residents of Hawaiʻi are buried in this memorial park.  Below you can observe some of the photos...

Tropical Farms of Hawaii - Macadamia...

Kualoa Ranch Nature Reserve - The Little Country Store...

Tropical Farms began as a roadside operation in 1987. With Kamehameha Highway in the fore, and the Pacific Ocean at our backs, Mr. and Mrs. Paty set upon an adventure that has lasted over two decades.

Cracking, sorting and packaging at night, the days were filled with raising children and the selling of fresh macadamia nuts from the hood of the car.

Today, they are fortunate indeed to have Tropical Farms in the perfect place. Steve and Chrissy Paty were born and raised on the island of Oahu, and are pleased to offer you a location that is among the most memorable in the State of Hawai'i—real country and true hospitality!

It was a wonderful stop - we all bought many products and lots of macadamia nuts!  Here's a few photos that will be included on our download...

Waimea Bay Beach...

North Shore...

Waimea Bay is located in Haleiwa on the North Shore of O'ahu in the Hawaiian Islands at the mouth of the Waimea River. Waimea Valley extends behind Waimea Bay.  Waimea means "reddish water" in Hawaiian.

Waimea is famous for its 30-foot waves in the winter and is a top place to watch some of the world’s best and bravest surfers. During summer, the water calms considerably and is a great destination for swimming, snorkeling and diving.

Nu'uanu Pali Lookout State Park was another stop featuring the Battle of Nu'uanu where some 400 warriors were forced over the high cliff.

Dole Plantation...

Hope on the Pineapple Express Train Tour...

Originally operated as a fruit stand beginning in 1950, Dole Plantation opened to the public as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989.

Today, Dole Plantation is one of Oahu’s most popular visitor attractions and welcomes more than one million visitors a year.

There's a lot to take in; the train ride, the wonderful-tasting DoleWhip, the Plantation Garden Tour and huge store for SHOPPING!

Dole Plantation provides enjoyable activities for the entire family, including the Pineapple Express Train Tour, the Plantation Garden Tour, and the Pineapple Garden Maze.

Also popular are informational displays and presentations, as well as our plantation country store offering a wide variety of Dole Plantation gifts, local favorites, foods and refreshments including the world-famous DoleWhip.

Our tour continued to Nu'uanu Pali Lookout State Park - a beautiful overlook and then back to our beautiful hotel with plenty of photos to show the surroundings from a bird's-eye view of the beach and sunset!  What a wonderful view!!!

PARADISE COVE LUAU...

Voted the best luau in Oahu, your night at Paradise Cove begins with a  beautiful flower lai  put around your neck by a beautiful Hawaiian young lady, a tropical Mai Tai greeting and traditional Hawaiian music to set the festive mood. You’ll then learn more about Hawaiian culture with arts and crafts, games, fishing demonstrations and even the delightful shower of flowers. Not to be missed.

And of course, you’ll want to bring your appetite to enjoy the Paradise Cove Luau menu, which tastefully blends the best of traditional Hawaiian dishes, local favorites, and continental cuisine set out on a huge buffet.

With the Hawaiian sunset as a backdrop, performers entertained us with an unforgettable display of songs and dances of Hawaii and Polynesian culture.

Our evening to the Paradise Cove including a wonderful luau with roasted pig, lots of food - then we videoed the beautiful dancers, singers and fire twirlers!  It was a spectacular evening and a great way to start our tour - I took a bunch of pictures and videoed the beautiful hula dancers, the fire twirlers along with actors who were part of the show.  All of this on our 30-minute download you can buy for only $12.00.
