Explore Tahiti’s Wonders

Travel to Papeete, on Tahiti, which is the capital of French Polynesia, a group of islands in the South Pacific. Beside the port, busy place Vai’ete fills with roulottes, or food carts, in the evenings. Nearby, the large Marché de Papeete, lots of shopping at markets that sells local produce, fish and handicrafts. The Robert Wan Pearl Museum focuses on the local pearl industry and sells jewelry.

James Norman Hall was an American writer best known for the Bounty Trilogy, three historical novels he wrote with Charles Nordhoff: Mutiny on the Bounty, Men Against the Sea and Pitcairn's Island.

James Norman Hall (22 April 1887 - 5 July 1951) was born in Colfax, Iowa, where he attended the local schools.

To see how one family worked out their idea of living in paradise, head to the James Norman Hall Museum (La Maison de James Norman Hall). Hall was the coauthor of the book Mutiny on the Bounty, and with the book’s bounty, he bought a swath of Tahitian beach and built his dream house. Captain Bligh had been sent to Tahiti to collect breadfruit to be transplanted in the West Indies where it was hoped it would prosper as a food source for sugar plantation workers, so don’t miss the breadfruit trees planted here. (If you’ve not tried the fruit, it tastes like a cross between a grapefruit and a pineapple, delicious.)

From 1920 to 1951, this was the home of one of Tahiti's famous resident authors, James Norman Hall, the co-author of Mutiny on the Bounty, Pitcairn's Island and other tales of adventure in the South Pacific.

This is a splendid point which provides a nice view of Moorea and the Tahitian coastline. There is ample sand to lay on, a lighthouse, several historical makers, a snack counter, and gift shop. 

Historical park and beach;

 During the cruise we stopped in Tahiti on our last day. While there, we took a tour and this was part of our island excursion. During the day we stopped at Point Venus. There are historical landmarks in this park and a black sand beach as well. There is a very cool lighthouse and monuments to Captain Cook and Blye. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend this attraction.

Many have been a follower of Captain Cook and visiting this place was on some of our fellow passenger's bucket list.

 It is a pretty area and not too far away from the main centre of town. Take your swimming gear and enjoy the black sands of the beach. There is some general historical information about the area, but no significant physical artefacts of Cook's visit - but that was over 250 years ago.

Located in Arue, Tahiti Pearl Beach Resort is on the beach. Tomb of King Pomare V and Pointe Venus Lighthouse are local landmarks, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Plage Lafayette and Black Sand Beach. We appreciated the hotel's central location.

You haven’t truly seen color until you’ve been to French Polynesia. This chain of 118 islands is scattered from Manuae to Mangaravea, covers the size of Europe and is surrounded by the gin-clear, sapphire South Pacific and lush green flora.

Credit for this work of art goes to the ancient god Ta’aroa, who — according to Polynesian myth — made the rocks, sand and mountains from the shell he came from, filled the rivers and oceans with his tears and painted the rainbow with his blood. 

But Tahiti is no shrinking violet. The island is full of charm, both in the city of Papeete and in its remote and fragrant corners, where the infinite colors can be yours for a visit.

The evening sky was a burst of oranges and blues, when a group of young Tahitian skaters started break-dancing in the corners — oblivious to the splendor all around us. While the beauty may have been breathtaking, the milky swirl of coconut and scarlet tuna was the real star that night!
