This was one of our wonderful excursions - on our Panama Cruise - a stop to visit Valparaíso which is a port city on Chile’s coast. Only 70 miles northwest of capital Santiago, Valparaiso is Chile's main port. It's known for its steep funiculars and colorful, clifftop homes. It's a Chilean city steeped in history once known as the “The Jewel of South America”.
Lots of things going on in the city - lots of statues, churches and high walls leading up to more buildings and painted art deco on a stair incline - very colorful! Some you have to see for yourself on our download!
We were there on a Sunday and people set up their products right on the sidewalk, many had blue tents in a craft area. Others were homeless pushing their grocery cart around with all their possessions inside. One form of transpiration was an old green and white bus with rods touching up to the electrical lines for power - some might call it a trolly!
VIÑA DEL MAR - the most popular beach resort in the country, Vina del Mar is within reach of both Santiago and Valparaiso.
It's a so-called “Garden City”. Let your imagination run free and enjoy its detailed urban aesthetics that mix modern buildings with white sand beaches and large green areas.
Its long promenade will catch your eye with innovative spaces for outdoor sports, activities and top level gastronomy. You must enjoy the sun, swim in the water or watch the multicolored sunset from its highly popular beach resorts like Reñaca, Concón and Las Salinas.
